Monday Thinking...

It does happen to some of us once in a while... Thinking on a Monday. In this case inspired by Sam Alexander on his Blog entitled "Infinitely Large vs. Arbitrarily Large"

Now what caught my attention was the reference: "There is no individual number whose size (value) is infinity". (Sam Alexander) So, if infinity has no size, or that there can be no determinable value assigned to it...

How do we know that it exists? How can we then determine (mathematically) that there is infinity?

That, of course, in relation to the Universe, or even the Dark Matter within the Universe, would present a bit of a conundrum. Or, is it that what we observe is really an observation into our own infinity?

Not to change the subject, as Sam Alexander seems to think it is in the same context... ("Sets within Sets") is "ZFC, the Axiom of Foundation". Now wouldn't that be a Mandelbrot Set? The Basis of Fractals? Actually making infinity visible in spite of it being indeterminable. Or at least the possibility of doing so.

All in all an excellent Blog post Mr. Alexander. You made me think a bit. -d

America (US of) and the 4th of July

Freedom, like Respect, can never be granted, It must be earned.
Freedom should never be taken for granted, it must be nurtured and cultivated continually and constantly.

“The price good men pay for indifference to publiuc affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” ~ Plato

On this day the people of the United States of America celebrate the Birth of a Nation. But is it exactly that happened that they are celebrating?

On this day, 4 July, 234 years ago, a group whose number was to total 56, signed a Document that would change the Worlds History forever. Those men knew that they stood to loose every thing that they had, including their lives. They had, in fact, by the act of signing, placed their names on their own Death Warrants.
For what?
The concept, the ideal, that a free people should have the right to self determination and self governance. Free form tyranny, and suffering. And they put their lives on the line for something greater than themselves, or any individual. An Ideal.
The realization of that goal, which continues through this day, from the Hearts of people and the love of Freedom. It has been, and continues to be, paid for purely by the sacrifices and blood of Brave Men and Women, who stood to gain nothing for themselves.

Happy Birthday America.

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But the U.S. ARMED FORCES don't have that problem. ~ Ronald Reagan

Was it really 20 years?

November 9. 1989...
no one knew what would happen,
what would today be like,
20 years later,

How would they react?
How would we react?

Certainly much better than those past
November 9th's...

Peace, a concept we needed to learn,
But too soon forgot...

Joy, Sadness, Sorrow, Relief...
So much,
now so long ago. -d

-------------------------------------------------------------------

War es wirklich 20 Jahre?
9. November. 1989...
niemand wußte,
was passieren würde,
das, was heute wie es wäre,
20 Jahre später vor 20 Jahren.

Wie würden sie reagieren?,
wie würden wir reagieren?

Bestimmt besser als jener ander vergangene 9. November,
viel...

Frieden, eine Vorstellung, die wir lernen mußten,
aber vergaß zu früh...

Joy, Traurigkeit, Trauer, Erleichterung...
So sehr, so vor langer Zeit jetzt. d
